MEET OUR TEAM

Lisa (she/her) - Executive Director

Lisa joined Veith House in June 2020. Although originally trained as a graphic designer - and a graduate of NSCAD - she moved to London, UK in 2001 found herself drawn to the not-for-profit world. She started out as a Communications officer for a copyright charity, but then moved on to a series of deputy and leadership roles in a not-for-profits, including a personal safety charity, a busy day centre for homeless people, a social care support organization, and a national membership and training organization for supported housing. In her last role in the UK, she served as the CEO of Mind Yourself, a community centre serving the health and wellbeing of the Irish in London, before returning to Nova Scotia with her husband to be closer to the ocean and her family. She now enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with the staff and volunteers at Veith House supporting the diverse community found in Halifax's North End.

Monica (she/her) - Administration/Finance

Monica Marsh is the longest serving member of the Veith House team and has been working as our bookkeeper and resident numbers specialist since 2006. Before Monica joined the team, her mother held the same job, making Monica part of the Veith House family even before she started working here. In addition to her admin/finance duties Monica helps community members with taxes and government forms, has worked and volunteered with other sister organizations, has been a leader in our C@P Site (@NS), and is always visible at our community events including the NECC Annual BBQ in June and the North End Tree Lighting event in December.

Katie (she/her) - Social Worker

Katie Scrine, BA, BSW, RSW., is an advocate for food security and accessible housing in North End Halifax. Katie offers short-term supportive counselling, advocacy and resource navigation for community members. Katie joined the Veith House team in 2016 working hard to build our growing Holiday Support program, supporting our Trustee program and making connections in the community . Katie is currently working towards her Masters of Social Work degree at Memorial University while continuing to serve members of the community here at Veith House. 

Saida (she/her) - Newcomer Program Coordinator

Saida Gazie joined our team in 2018 creating and supporting programs for individuals and families new to Canada. She is an advocate and voice for community members as she supports them in applying for family assistance , finding inexpensive and safe rental units, job searches and connecting newcomers with free educational and programs for both adults and youth. Through programs, events and initiatives she has been successful in introducing a number of families to the Halifax community. 

Jade (she/her) - Youth Program Coordinator

Jade has been working with youth for the past 10 years. She grew up in the North End of Halifax. She has spent years playing basketball for the community, as well as coaching. As Youth Development Coordinator at the YMCA, Jade supervised Junior Leaders in the summer camps and planned programming. Jade has travelled the world as a Young Ambassador to learn more about programs offered to youth everywhere! Jade graduated college in 2017, completing her studies to become a Child and Youth Care Worker.

Leslie (she/her) - Supervised Access & Exchange Program Coordinator

Leslie Harrie, BA., has her degree in Psychology with a minor in French from Saint Mary’s University. She is currently in the process of completing her BSW with the University of Manitoba. She has experience working with children, youth, and families, as well as mental health. Leslie came to us in 2020 as a social work student, and her interest in helping children and families, along with her experience assisting with the Supervised Access and Exchange Program, ultimately led her to becoming the Supervised Access and Exchange Coordinator.

​Marijke (mr-eye-ka) joined the team in the role of Receptionist and Administrative Support in January of 2021. She grew up in the Halifax-Dartmouth area and moved to Vancouver where she lived for most of her adult life before returning to Halifax. While living in Vancouver she volunteered for animal welfare organizations, LGBT+ events and groups and was an active member of the Vancouver East Side community. She is a graduate of Vancouver Film School’s Writing for Film, Television and Media and has experience in producing, writing and directing live shows as well as short film and sketch comedy. Marijke is fascinated by the Veith House’s history and the community surrounding it.

Marijke Grijm (she/her) - Reception

Tracey joined us in July 2020, and comes with years of experience in the HRM Cleaning Industry. In addition to these skills, Tracey has been helping with the creation of the Health & Safety committee, serving as the Secretary, as well as being nominated by her team members to represent the staff on Veith House’s Board. Tracey comes from a large family and enjoys all aspects of Veith House, and especially enjoys getting to meet the children of Halifax’s North End.
